Senior Dogs Rescue

Aiming to rehome dogs in their twilight years

Seniors in care with Senior Dogs

The following Senior aged darlings are Seniors dogs in Sydney. If you are interested in finding out more about them please email me at linda.jane@bigpond.com.au  or call 0430 797 191 after hours.

All dogs will be rehomed in NSW/ ACT only.

Why won't I rehome to an interstate home?

* transporting dogs by air or road is stressful and has some risk.

* it is not possible for you to meet and assess the dog beforehand.

* introductions to existing 'pet' family members are not possible.

* I like to visit a home myself (or have the help of a close rescue collegue).

* if the trial doesn't work out??????

Maisie

Meet little Maisie. She's tiny and old and a Chihuahua....just the way we like them at Seniors. She has a foster carer, Jen (yes Jen Jen was named after her) and here is a little bit about her.

Our little Maisy is slowly coming out of her shell after 5 weeks of being in care.   She had a bit of  trouble getting around when she first arrived, due to her only having one eye with very limited vision, but now she is comfortable in her surroundings she is having no problem at all.  Her other eye, which has no vision, was either a birth defect or a very old injury and is sunken into her socket.  Her two back hips are very arthritic so she can't negotiate too many steps, but the more she becomes confident the more she does.  She is now walking around the block with her two little old foster buddies.   Maisey is now feeling a lot better after  having her remaining teeth extracted, because unfortunately the teeth  that were still there were causing her pain and suffering.  She was sneezing blood due to the rotting roots.    Maisy likes to curl up in her little bed during the day, she is not a fussy eater and is housetrained and loves to follow her foster carer around so she doesn't miss out on anything.  Maisy is estimated to be about 12 years of age with a very gentle nature, and we would love her last years to be ones where she lives in total comfort.

Taffy

Taffy - Silky X Crested - Female - 7 years

Taffy came into care a very skinny unloved little girl. She had probably never been in the house or sat on the lounge before.
She was not house-trained and it was a challenge for her to learn the better place to toilet. She is learning and is almost 100%.
Her nature is quiet, friendly and calm. She is active and alert and has no issues.
Her coat is growing back after the knots and matts were clipped off but it's this thin coat type that suggests her cross with a Chinese Crested Powder Puff dog.
She has gained weight and is slowly filling out from the bony frame that arrived here. She is a good eater and not fussy.
Taffy is sociable with people and good with other dogs, although is a little bossy with other females.
She would suit a household with company of other dog(s) and people but not younger children.
She will only be rehomed within NSW/ACT after a home visit.

Kitty Kat

Kitty Kat - Maltese - Female - 9 years old

Kitty Kat came from the pound a very sorry sight. She was severly matted, had badly infected eyes and just 2 teeth. More shockingly she had a 'circle' of hair wrapped around the middle of her tongue slowly strangling it.
She's now on the mend and will soon be looking even better than these photos show (after just 2 weeks in care).
She is a truly amazing girl. She is sweet, fully house trained, worked out the doggie door on day 1 and has the nicest nature.
She gets on well with every dog in care and is very sociable with people. She is playful, very affectionate and loves a cuddle.
She has a small hernia that, at present, doesn't require surgery and a tongue that pertrubes a long way but in every other aspect she is healthy and hearty.
Kitty Kat must go to a home in Sydney, ACT or NSW after a home visit.

Eddie

EDDIE HAS RELOCATED TO HER COUNTRY HIDEAWAY with a beautiful family of her own.

Foxie X - Female - 7- 8 years old

Eddie is a gentle girl with excellent house manners, house trained for toileting and will calmly find a place on the lounge.
She gently takes food and treats from your fingers and eats like a true lady.
She is very agile, quite active, loves to play with soft toys and chases a ball and gets on well with all of her foster brothers and sisters.
She doesn't bark much (but will bark at someone coming but stops when asked to) or whinge and just thoughtfully follows the comings and goings.
She simply adores to go for a walk and that would be a daily ritual that would keep her happy and healty
A sensible girl with plenty left to give and enjoy.
As she is a Terrier I would not team her with cats. She may also be a bit too big and busy for small children.

Little Nell - Shih Tzu X - Female - 8 years

Little Nell is sweet and friendly, but not too old for a romp and play with a friend. She is friendly with other dogs and cats. She loves a snuggle and a sit on the lounge, is house-trained and a good eater.
She came from the pound severly neglected almost blind and bald.
Treatment has seen her skin heal, her coat grow back and her eyes improve dramatically. She will need to have drops for her eyes to keep them safe from further damage but she is very used to accepting them.
She has so much love to give and so much life left and needs a home where she will be treasured as she has missed out on so much.

Dickie - Special Needs

Run free sweet boy............

Dickie - Chihuahua - Male - 14 years

**Special Needs**
Dickie is a tiny Chihuahua with all the fiestiness and perculiarities common to teeny tiny dogs. He will not go to a home with children, with dogs bigger than him - he is under 2 kg - or a home with males (people).
He is frightened of so many things that he needs a home where he and his person are safe and secure. All he wants in life is to have a person, his person, to love and adore him and spend as much times as possible with him.
Bonding takes time with a tiny dog who sometimes snarls, but once you put in the time and you are bonded he will never leave your side.
He's not been used to harnesses and walks but I'm sure it is in the best interest of his health for him to get used to it and to take a daily short stroll.
He is house-trained, manages a soft doggie door and must be inside at all times.
Dickie has had a dental and he lost 2 teeth, but the rest are clean and polished.
He will only be rehomed in Sydney.

Suzie

ADOPTED !

Suzie - Silky Terrier - Female - 12 years

Suzie is the cutest munchkin ever! She is a dream to care for. She is house trained, doggie door savvy, friendly with all people and other dogs and a cuddle specialist.

She has some arthritis in her rear legs but doesn't need any pain relief to be happy and comfortable. It's obvious she is a trooper as she jumps and dances at dinner time.

She is a tiny girl who would do well in a quiet home. She is too small and delicate for children but suit other older children

and  particularly older people. She would suit a home with other gentle dogs or a home with lots of company.

She would like to sleep all night in a tiny, cosy bed beside yours.

Her coat is easy care and needs only a regular brush and a trim around her face and feet occasionally.

She has lots of love to give and life left in her and she deserves the same.

Some new photos of her with a new do, thanks to her godmother Anna.
